Basic Information on Cold and Flu

There’s a time when parents or kids start to feel under the weather. You never know at what time of season you may get ill. Once Cold & Fluyou know that, you can very well understand that next week is going to be a nightmare. It’s difficult for you to exactly make out a difference between cold and flu.  Both are respiratory illnesses, but caused by different viruses. Flu is more serious as compare to cold. Cold lasts longer as compare to flu that lasts about 4-5 days.

The cold begins when you inhale tiny cold virus particles floating around somewhere. It initiates from nostrils. You sneeze and cough a lot when your body tries to fit with it. The symptoms get worse within hours of inhaling the virus. Flu as compare to cold comes much more sudden. You start feeling tired, body aches, headaches and chills. It is communicable for about 5 days to a week, depending on the health of the infected person. Flu must not be related to stomach flu as the two are totally different terms. Stomach flu has symptoms of stomach problems, and does not last longer, whereas actual flu is more serious. Cold and flu are highly communicable diseases.

To get rid of cold:

1. drink plenty of water and should take good rest. When you cough or sneeze your body gets dry. Drinking large amount of water can help your body regain its original water content.

2. You should avoid taking too much of medicine, as it can have a negative effect on your body. Your body can get used to medicine, and this may weaken the immune system of your body. Taking more than the recommended dosage can have a serious effect on your body. So, the best you can do is to take good sleep and drink plenty of water.

3. In case of flu, you must take flu shots once in a year. You should take antiviral medicine to get rid of flu faster. Water intake is also one of the necessities.

4. You should avoid taking aspirin, as it can be fatal. Instead of aspirin, you should take Tylenol which is a safer option of pain relief. If situation gets more worsened you should consult a doctor. So, above mentioned are some tips so that you can prevent yourself from cold and flu.

The old traditions still work best. Modern medicine gives you temporarily relief and can be harmful in later stages of your life. So you just make sure that you drink lots of water, take good sleep, and have good nutritious diet to prevent yourself from cold and flu. Remember, prevention is better than cure!
