Blood Diseases: What are the Causes and Treatments?

Leukemia is mainly a group of disease which affects proper functioning of blood cells. It can be acute or chronic. Blood as well as urine samples are tested.

Causes:

The main cause of blood cancer and diseases is the weakened immune system. There are many reasons for the same and mainly, these are due to negligence of the person. Variety of reasons is drugs, radiations used in treatment of cancer (radiotherapy) or diseases that directly affect immune system like HIV. Certain chemicals also have bad effect on our immune system, like benzene which is found in petrol and used in plastic & rubber industry extensively. Certain genetic disorders like Fanconi anemia also affect the immune system badly.

Treatments:

Radio immunotherapy is one of the techniques used extensively. In this an immunotoxin- which is a hybrid molecule of an antibody molecule and a toxin is injected into the patient. The antibody gets lock to the protein and the cancerous cell delivers toxic dose to the cancer cell. This treatment is a precise one has minimized effect on other body parts. Preliminary results with the new drug are extremely promising.

Doctors may prescribe medications which get classified as “growth factors,” that helps your body to produce more blood cells. This thing is used for persons who have low blood count and have higher probability of experiencing complications related to blood cancer. Medications have both benefits and risk, so consult your doctor before going for it.

People feel confused as well as overwhelmed when they get to know they have blood cancer. It’s the testing time both for the person and the families. In case of advance cancer you can receive extra support generally termed as palliative care. Doctors and nurses are specially trained in such kind of support and they can visit you r home too.

Our daily life is full of hazardous work. Ct and scratches are common. But for the person with low platelet count even a minor cut can be life consuming, as it can be the starting point of a serious infection
