Crack – How Is It Harmful For Human Body?

What is Crack?

Crack is commonly known as cocaine and is an essentially a drug which acts as a strong stimulant. Crack is essentially a type of depression drugscocaine which is present in the form of rock crystals which is then heated in order to generate vapors. It is these vapors which are then smoked by individuals and thus such individuals form the toughest addiction. Now we would like to ask why such a form of cocaine is known as crack and why not simply cocaine? Well the answer is that such type of cocaine produces a crackling sound when the rock crystals are subjected to heat.

The people who are suffering from crack addiction employ three paths so as to add crack to their body and blood. These are mainly inhalation or snorting of the powdered form of cocaine through nose, inhalation or smoking of cocaine vapor due to which the smoke directly goes into our lungs and finally by making use of an injection i.e. injecting in which the injection is filled with liquefied cocaine and then is discharged into our blood stream. In case where the smoke directly enters our lungs the smoke is absorbed by our blood at the same rate as that by injection.

Cocaine is available in two types such as:-

1. Hydrochloride salt. The hydrochloride salt easily gets dissolved in water. Due to this it makes it possible for the public to inject it in the vein or snort it in their nose.

2. Freebase – On the other hand the freebase type of cocaine can be easily smoked. The duration and intensity of the effect of cocaine depends on the path used for the insertion of drug in the body. This is the main deciding factor on which the rate of addiction depends. The path leads to an increase in the energy level, mental alertness and reduced fatigue.

In what ever form we intake cocaine it should be always remembered that it is very harmful to our body. Its addiction leads to a number of serious problems such as nervous breakdowns, heart problems which can lead to a heart attack, respiratory problems such as respiratory failures and problems related to digestion, all of them can prove to be deadly. Cocaine acts as a powerful brain stimulant which enhances the dopamine level present in the brain. Dopamine is a chemical which is present in the brain and is responsible for the movement and pleasure and is placed in the reward circuit of the brain. Numerous neurons or brain cells employ dopamine for communication.  In order to combat crack addiction the addicts needs to go through regular behavioral interferences mainly cognitive-behavioral therapy.
