Daily care for dry skin.

The invigorating winter season can, besides giving you rosy cheeks, absorb all the moisture away leaving you with a taut, dry skin. The signs of a dry skins are:

1. Your skin has a few flaky patches that disappear with rich moisturising creams.

2. Your skin looks fine textured, which means that the pores are not visible.

3. You have tiny expression lines around the eyes. These do not disappear, but seem to have come to stay.

4. The skin of the neck and cheeks looks crepey .

The human skin is structured to breathe in oxygen. In order to do so, it should be absolutely clean. There is also, a very high moisture content in the cells of the skin. This water content decreases slowly with age due to hormonal or vitamin deficiency. The moisture glands of the skin get more ineffective, resulting in a dry and prematurely wrinkled skin. In fact, water is even more important to a dry skin than oil.

Excessive dry skins should be treated with those preparations, which are designed to supply moisture to the skin.

Apart from a good health diet, an eight-hour sleep schedule and lots of freash fruit and vegetables, exercise in fresh air and a daily beauty routine, are essential, if you like to prevent your skin from drying up.

First on your routine, should be cleansing. Most women use some kind of make-up on their skin, so cleansing is very essential. You need a cleanser, which will remove all pore-clogging debris effectively, without leaving the skin taut and dry or stripped of its natural protective mantle. A cactus cleaner, with a lemon base, is best.

Cactus has one of the highest moisture retension capacities and is ideal for rehydrating the skin. The cleanser must be massaged gently, into the skin with a light upward and outward stroke, paying particular attention to the creases of hte nose under the chin, neck and ear lobes.

Always use moist cotton wool to prevent it from absorbing moisture from the skin. The routine should be followed in the morning and at bedtime. Lemon is not only a natural cleanser but a natural bleach and after a period of time, the skin begins to look fairer, while the catus would stagger the onslaught of the wrinkling and lining process.

The second step in your daily routine should be toning, which is an essential follow-up of the cleansing process. Toning removes the lst stages of cleanser and dissolves dirt. It stimulates surface circulations. It is advisable to use a skin tonic lotion.

“Pour half a bottle of skin tonic in a dish, and soak in it few small pads of cotton wool and leave it in the fridge. Thus it will always be ready, soaked and cold to be dabbed onto the face.”

Before throwing away the pad ,press and roll it in an upward direction on the face and neck. A skin tonic, with a mint and honey base, would be excellent the pores, especially under the eyes and on the jawline.

The next step is nourishing the skin, which is essential, if you would like to prevent dryness. When you are asleep the skin is busy replacing dead cells with new ones. Sleeping is very important time for beauty, because there is no sun, wind or dust to bother the skin. The dermal tissues can relax and be nourished and replenished without external disturbances.

Lastly, keep in mind that soap and purifying elements like chlorine in the water have a drying effect on the skin. What is therefore essential , is a special pre-bath cream, which contains turmeric and special moisturisers. This should be applied on the face, before a bath or washing the face, in order to ward off the drying and harmful effects of washing with soap and water. A gentle vanishing cream goes a long way in protecting skin from getting dehydrated during the day.

Equipped with this knowledge, you should be able to prevent the skin from becoming a victim to the changing seasons and make the most of the winter. Remember, that there is nothing as beautiful as a flawless skin.
