Fitting Into a Fit Body

Fit Body“A healthy mind lives in a healthy body”. Fitness is quite a rage now-a-days. However, only a small percentage of people are aware of what the term “fitness” is all about. To define fitness: Fitness is the ability of the body to do work without encountering much fatigue. In general terms, fitness means the well-being state of a person’s health. It depends on the diet intake, the exercises performed by an individual during his everyday life, personal habits, etc. These factors primarily define the sate of alertness with which an individual can perform tasks.

A closer look shows that proper functioning of the various body systems is the essential component of defining how fit a person is. It includes that the heart must pump sufficient oxygen and delivers it at the requisite rate to all body parts. Next, if the muscles constituting the muscular system are flexible and do not get fatigued quickly, this satisfies the next level of being ‘fit’. Lastly, if requirement of the components of the body, in the correct quantity is met by daily food intake, a person can be said to be fit. The above stated criteria depend on the following variables which largely determine a person’s fitness.

The primary factor leading to not only physical fitness but also general fitness, on the whole, is the diet of a person. The food one eats, its nature and amount is what matters. This can be explained clearly by the term balanced diet. If nutrients such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, salts and fiber are taken in wholesome amount, that is, as is required by the body, it is called a balanced diet. The constituents and quantity of a balanced diet varies from person to person, depending on the work type and body type of each person.

A laborer who does a lot of physical work, for example, would need more of energy and hence the intake of carbohydrates should ideally be more than those consumed by a person who sits in an office all day long. The other factor which is necessary for physical fitness is exercise. This too, depends upon the work type and body type of the individual. But it must be kept in mind that exercise does not always mean losing weight. Foremost, exercise means to keep the body parts in perfect functioning condition. One must be aware of all facts to keep fit in real terms.
