Health And Fitness- Essence Of Life
The World Health Organization has given a definition of health that is universally accepted and is generally taught in the course
or curriculum of numerous schools and colleges under the course heading of physical education. In-fact there are special colleges that are devoted to this interesting science. The topic of health can be bifurcated into two broad categories that include physical health and mental health. Physical health of an individual mainly deals with the weight of a person corresponding to his or her height.
This ratio is better known as Body Mass Index and abbreviated as BMI.The Body Mass Index proves to be a vital means to gauge the physical fitness levels of an individual. This assumes somewhat more importance in the recruitment procedures for the armed forces.
Health and fitness are synonyms and can be used interchangeably. Physical fitness also depends on factors such as the standard of living of a person and the way in which the person is leading his or her respective life.
Mental health or mental fitness is another equally important parameter used to determine the overall fitness of an individual. One often hears people saying that this person is looking healthy from his or her face. This is basically a reflection of the state of mind of an individual, although exceptions may exist. Good mental health enables a person to handle stress in life efficiently. In-fact, the success of a person highly depends on how well he or she can handle stress. A person having appropriate levels of mental fitness feels capable of doing a variety of things that is, versatility. There is a feeling of readiness to handle challenges and such people usually perform well in their personal and social lives.
It can be undoubtedly said that perfect mental health is a vital ingredient for a successful married life. Any text on health and fitness can be deemed to be incomplete without the mention of exercise. Exercises for the maintenance of proper physical and mental health have been devised. Various kinds of physical exercises are known today such as jogging, running, playing different games and specific exercises to focus on specific parts of body. However, for mental well being, it is advisable that people lay a lot of stress on activities involving both the left and right sides of the brain. General brain improving activities include solving puzzles, pursuing different hobbies and constantly trying to learn new things. Visiting new places also has a positive effect on the brain of an individual.
