The Onion Interesting Facts:-

The chemical reactions are the reason why the people cry whenever they cut the onion.  When they cut the onion, they release the amino acids called the sulfoxides that are turn into the sulfuric acids through the chemical reactions.  The sulfuric acids are then mixes together with the enzymes from onion for producing the propanethiol S-oxide that are the sulphuric chemicals. This sulphuric chemical, are being in the gaseous states that comes into the contact with water in their eyes & causes the burning sensation.  With response to such irritations, their eye releases the tears in the effort of removing the irritant.

As the side note, when an onion is cooked, heat which is produced inactivates the enzymes of the onion and hence they no longer irritate their eyes.

Some of the tips that a person should do in order to prevent them from crying whenever they cut the onions are appended below:

1. Always wear the safety goggles to protect the eyes.

2. Run the fan in order to pull sulphuric gases away from the person,

3. Always place the onion in the bowl filled with the water & only then cut them, and last but not the least,

4. Keep onions in the refrigerator until they are get ready in order to cut them, as cold air emerging from the fridge can slow down the chemical reaction inside an onion.
