The Various Reasons behind Drug Addiction

The obsession for drugs can be influenced by a huge number of factors. The majority of people use these drugs in a social context so as to change their feelings about themselves, as they would like to experience a different or a better feeling. Usually the people consume the drugs because of the apparent benefits that are connected with its consumption, or the various benefits which are said to be experienced by them (but are not actually there), and not for the possible harms that these drugs may cause. The people consume drugs to calm themselves down, or to have an enjoyable time, or to be an element of a group of people, or may be just out of curiosity, and may be to get away from a psychological or a physical pain. Most of these reasons are exactly the same for both the young people and for the elderly people.

Now one would ask that what exactly causes a drug addiction. A lot of factors have an effect on the initial consumption of drugs by a person.

A person’s behavior characteristics, psychological stress and peer pressure can all add to the obsession of drugs. These factors are having a less significance as the consumption of drugs continues and the human being frequently undergoes the harmful intoxicating pharmacological effects of these drugs.

The drugs have a chemical reaction, which influences some of the systems that govern the brain, which in turn produces the obsession for drugs, while the additional social and psychological factors become less significant in influencing the person’s activities. When the harmful intoxicating pharmacological effect of a drug dictates the person’s activities and the common social and psychological control of activities is no longer helpful, at this stage it is confirmed that the obsession is completely developed.

This self supposed, failure of control on the psychological and social activities is a universal characteristic of a drug addiction and it is a sign of the organic nature of the trouble. The bodies of the people who are actually dependent on drugs, more often than not, may develop an acceptance level for these drugs. It means that these people need to consume more and more drugs in order to get the similar effect. In addition to the problems, some legal difficulties may also take place because of the consumption of drugs, for example, you can get arrested for your intoxicated actions or for driving in the influence of drugs.
