Sex Addiction – An Incurable Illness

After drug addiction the most common addiction is sex addiction. It is defined as an illness which is experienced all across the world by a number of women and men from various discrete cultures and backgrounds. When an individual is addicted to sex, then they are said to be suffering from an illness which is considered as progressive, incurable and is able to destroy the life of both the sufferer and its family members.

There are various recovery plans and therapies which are present so as to overcome sex addiction. However, it is a fact that still when a sex addict is undergoing the treatment he still has the compulsive and obsessive behavior. On top of this, sex addiction is accompanied by various other addictions such as use of drugs and problems in eating food. These are all behavioral symptoms and are due to the same illness of sex addiction.

Just like the various other addictions like alcohol addiction and drug addiction, the sex addiction also has both compulsive and obsessive needs. There are a number of changes seen in a person suffering from the illness of sex addiction. These behavioral changes are such as recurred empty affairs, regular use of various prostitutes, different sex services, voyeurism, child molestation, rape, exhibitionism and compulsive masturbation.

However, it should be kept in mind that people who are addicted to sex are good people and cannot be blindly considered as bad ones. Their situation is due to spiritual unrest and is not because of any moral failing. In order to define the behavior of the sex addicts a group known as Twelve Step has come up with a word called ‘bottom line’. This term is employed for defining the behaviors of individuals who are suffering from the illness of sex addiction.

The majority of the people suffering from sex addiction experience a state known as intrigue. Intrigue refers to a state where the addicts mind is preoccupied with sexual actions. He goes through a number of acts such as constant fascination with sexual actions, objectifying people and spending most of the time with his mind preoccupied with thoughts of sex only, this then leads to the need for compulsive acting, it is progressive in nature. Sex addiction might start with obsessive masturbation accompanied by likeness for pornography and thus creating a serious condition which requires making use of various prostitutes, leading to loss of money, unemployment and troubled married life, it can also lead to a person committing suicide.
