The Various Techniques and Types of Yoga
In today’s world, every individual faces a lot of stress, both physical and mental. Thus there is always a search of easy yet
effective way to gain relief from daily tensions. Yoga is one of such ways to get rid of the mental and physical tension.
There are many forms of yoga being practiced by numerous people all over the world. Due to the benefits of yoga such as relaxation and inner calm, it is quickly gaining popularity in the western countries too. A large number of institutes have come up in recent years teaching people the techniques of yoga. Each technique of yoga is different from other in respect of the benefits they offer. It requires time and patience to learn these techniques as these are difficult to understand.
As yoga is a wide term in itself, a beginner may find it difficult to choose the right program for himself, that’s where the yoga schools come in. They’ll tell you about all the popular forms of yoga and their benefits and then you can go for the one which suits your need. Some of the popular forms of yoga are:
a) Hatha: This word is combination of two words; ‘ha’ meaning ‘sun’ and ‘tha’ which is referred to as moon. This particular form teaches the individual how to unite body, mind and the spirit. This form is generally recommended to beginners who are totally new to asanas as it is easy to learn and has a smooth, slow pace.
b) Ashtanga Yoga: ‘ashtanga’ refers to eight limbs of the human body. It requires intense stamina to perform the complicated steps. Thus it is a difficult type of yoga as it requires great mental and physical strength to perform the asanas.
c) Power Yoga: This form has branched out of ashtanga yoga. This is a sort of western adaptation of ashtanga yoga .In this form the individual has to perform the various asanas continuously without stopping. Unlike ashtanga form, this does not follow the exact order of the asanas.
d) Bikram: The bikram form is an advanced form which consists of 26 asanas required to be performed in a correct sequence. This form of yoga is practiced in special rooms having specific humidity levels approximately 40 % and temperature around 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
Students need to have proper knowledge about different styles of yoga before adopting any one of them. Yoga can provide you mental calm and health benefits.
