Treatment for Hypertension
Hypertension or “high blood pressure” as it is commonly called, accounts for large number of deaths every year throughout the
world. Hypertension is also known as the “silent killer” because sometimes an individual does not even know that he or she may be suffering from high blood pressure until it becomes too late. Hypertension often leads to cardiac arrest and may lead to the death of an individual. It also has a very serious impact on other vital organs of the body like liver, brain and kidneys and may even to failure of these organs which can prove fatal.
The heart beat of humans has two distinct phases, one phase is the systolic phase in which is referred to as the active face of heart and the other phase of heart beat is the diastolic phase which is referred to as the resting phase of heart and occurs only for fractions of a second. But during both the phase heart keeps pumping the blood through blood vessels.
In a normal human being the systolic blood pressure varies from 120-140mm of Hg (i.e. mercury) and the diastolic blood pressure varies from 80-90mm of Hg. The doctor uses sphygmomanometer to measure the blood pressure and finds out whether the blood pressure is normal, high or low. Hypertension occurs when the blood pressure of an individual is consistently over the normal values i.e. above 140mm of Hg in case of the systolic blood pressure and above 90mm of Hg in case of diastolic blood pressure.
A person suffering from hypertension or the high blood pressure show some characteristic symptoms like increased heart beat, profuse sweating, dizziness, giddiness, palpitations, in extreme cases there also occurs bleeding from the eyes as the capillaries that supply blood to retina of the eye are very narrow and increase in blood pressure may rupture them thus causing bleeding from the eyes. People with very high blood pressure can also suffer from paralysis resulting from cerebral hemorrhage and also such people are more prone to heart attacks or the myocardial infections.
People suffering from hypertension are advised to take extra care of themselves else the high blood pressure can prove fatal for them. They are required to follow a strict and healthy diet regime with less amount of salt intake. They are required to follow a healthy lifestyle which can make them stress free and are also required to do some exercises like going for walk in a nearby park, practice yoga which is not only a great stress reliever but also helps in lowering the high blood pressure.
Often it is seen that changes in lifestyle is the root cause for most of the problems. And in addition to this the stress from the work pressure and unhealthy eating habits only add to the woes. People with high blood pressure are required to avoid consumption of alcohol, quit smoking and avoid drugs as they can aggravate hypertension.
Your life is precious not only for you but also for those around you, maintain a healthy lifestyle and have a healthy heart instead of hypertension. You are the source of smile for a lot around you so take care of yourself.
