Unmask your beauty
ONE of the oldest forms of beauty treatments is the application of masks for the face and body. History is full of instances of women making use of various natural and organic substances to preserve the youth and beauty of their skin and hair.
Masks have a most stimulating effect, improving blood circulation, toning the muscles, maintaining skin elasticity and porcelaining it, apart from the actual benefits of the products themselves. Through time, these beauty treatments have not survived, but have been improved upon and their values have been recognized and acknowledged.
In fact, the modern woman has the advantage of specialised knowledge. She can understand the demands of her own skin and hair and learn to treat it accordingly. She can even help herself to the beauty aids that exist in her home-on the kitchen shelf-and take the help of specialised treatments and cures whenever necessary.
For Oily Skins
MIX a teaspoon of honey with one egg white and apply thickly on the face and neck. Leave for seven to ten minutes and wash off.
Mix one teaspoon yeast, one teaspoon sugar and half a cup of warm milk, cover and keep in a warm place. When it ferments, use it as a mask.
Mix two tablespoon papaya pulp with 10 drops of lemon juice. Leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse well.
Wash dried peas and dry them in the shade. When absolutely dry, powder and store in a glass jar. Take a little of this powder, add rose water to make a paste. Use a face pack.
Take a juice of the pulp of any fruit (orange, sweet lime, watermelon or papaya) and apply on the face as a mask. This is very relaxing. It cleanses the skin, closes pores and stimulates blood circulation.
