What Are the Symptoms Of Depression: A Mental Disorder?

Generally people from the age of 50 to 80 do not remain well satisfied by their lives and are always depressed Depression: A mental disorderabout their health. Though depression is not a normal part of the process of aging, and old aged people find it difficult to curb with their health issues and are generally depressed regarding the same. Thus one of the most common mental health concerns for old aged people is Depression. This problem concerns about 20 to 25 percent of the adults in this country. Not many people recognize that they are suffering from depression, which is a mental illness. Thus many people go undiagnosed with the illness, and thus untreated. It should be understood that states of decreased and low energy, poor sleep, always occupied with some or the other disease, is not a part of the normal aging process, but are the symptoms of depression, ant thus should be well notices and well taken care off.

An individual might be suffering from the state of depression if the above mentioned symptoms of low energy levels and improper sleep persist for more than two weeks. If an individual feels depressed about his/ her life, and seem not to enjoy his/ her life, he/she might be at the risk of being depressed. Few of the symptoms that have been suggested by the specialists in regards with Depression have been mentioned below:

1. A change in the sleeping pattern is observed. That is, if the individual sleeps for lesser hours or times than previously.
2. A change in the weight of the individual, also if the eating habits have changed, and the appetite has decreased.
3. If he/ she remains in a low energy state always, and is always tired. The feeling of fatigue if persists.
4. If he/ she is always trying to complaint about how unhappy his/her life is, and always talks about the troubles surrounding his/her life.
5. Feeling guilty for no reason and the feeling of being worthless and wasting his/her life for no good cause.
6. A comparatively slowed down movements.
7. Repeatedly having thoughts of committing suicide.

If such above mentioned symptoms persist in an individual, he/ she are suffering from the state of Major depression. Depression is not a noticeable illness, but people should be able to differentiate between the aging process and these symptoms, only then can they trace this state of depression.
