Why Do Wrinkles Appear and How to Remain Wrinkle Free
It may seem hard to believe when we are young but many of the things we put ourselves through now will come back to haunt us later on. Facial wrinkles seem to be a “badge of maturity” for many but they can be somewhat avoided when we take care of our facial skin and overall personal health. Poor diet will bring about many unpleasant health issues including heart disease, weight problems, and even wrinkles. Wrinkles actually begin as tiny delicate imperfections or creases in the skin. As we mature the skin on our face and neck begins to become thinner and somewhat saggy. This is due to a loss of elasticity that normally controls our skins integrity. Skin in merely a series of cells that, when healthy and treated well, will stretch and then recover much as an elastic band will, returning to normal every time. Those same cells can become damaged however, and this is seen in the form of wrinkles, particularly on our face.

Those who enjoy basking in the sunshine, working on that deeply tanned appearance that was originally thought of as a healthy appearance, now realize many facial wrinkles due to the damage that was incurred while sun bathing. The sun’s rays have proven to be harmful and even causing skin cancer for many people. While lighter complexions have the most to fear from development of skin cancer it can happen to anyone, of any race or complexion. Melanoma is far worse than simple wrinkles but in either case we become damaged by the very source of light and life we have each revered all our lives. The sun’s ultraviolet rays cause a process called photo-aging that damages cells. A younger persons cells will heal much more quickly than someone who is older and those young cells will have far less damage, thus healing more quickly. Older cells will experience a slower rate of healing and result in more damage done to them. But the damage is cumulative, meaning it builds up over years so that sun bathing, particularly for those receiving severe burns will add up over time and cause an increase in the incidence of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
Wrinkle removal is big business today
The removal of wrinkles and other skin blemishes is a big industry for those in the medical field who train in the art of plastic surgery and face lifts. Being able to have most of those wrinkles removed is inviting, especially to those who find their appearance an important part of their personal and professional life. Although the process of plastic surgery can be expensive, many undergo the process to improve their appearance.
Sun block and sun screen help prevent damage from the suns rays
While they cannot totally defend against the sun’s ultraviolet rays and their damaging influence on the skin’s cell structure, they do help by forming a shield against most of the rays and radiation. By using as high an SPF number as possible skin is shown to be well protected. Sun blocks containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide will also go a long way in protecting skin from the suns damaging rays.
Nutrition is vital to skin and overall health
Drinking plenty of water helps insure our body is hydrated sufficiently every day and our skin is especially needful of plenty of good old H2O. Vitamins A, D, C, and E are vital to healthy skin structure.
1) Vitamin A acts by keeping the keratinization of skin normal, while keeping sebum (a contributor to acne and blockage in cells) down. This allows for more elasticity in skin and that flexibility keeps wrinkles from forming.
2) Vitamin C is considered an antioxidant useful in regulation of skins collagen. It helps form barrier lipids, keeping skin moisturized and healthy in appearance.
3) Vitamin D is necessary protects the skins immunity, keeping the epithelial cells healthy and able to fight off germs and diseases.
4) Vitamin E has long been held in high esteem as a protector of the skins cells against suns ultraviolet rays.
Daily multivitamins containing the above will help insure skin remains healthy and keep wrinkles to a minimum. Wrinkles are a normal occurrence of the aging process but we can keep them to a minimum through care and prevention.
Smoking and other pollution speed up the aging process
Smokers have a “pursed lips” appearance caused by years of sucking on cigarettes, making their bad habit obvious although preventable. Pollution is in the air around us and difficult to avoid completely. Dust and chemicals in the air cause damage to skins cell structure that will eventually show up as frown lines and “crow’s feet” that deepen with age.
Some remedies work while others simply do more damage
Skin care remedies have been popular for decades and while some are effective, others can do more harm than good. Home remedies like the application of cucumbers, egg whites, yogurt, coconut oil, and flaxseed oil have some effectiveness. Apply a thin layer around eyes and forehead before going to bed and you will soon see improvement. As with anything, ask your doctor for advice before beginning a treatment program.
